In partnership with Cruise Newfoundland and Labrador CNL and Atlantic Canada Cruise Association ACCA, le Comité Régional du Tourisme (CRT) participated in the Seatrade of Miami from March 14th to the 16th 2011.
Thanks to our strong partnerships, the negotiations with our Canadian neighbors and some world cruise companies to emphasize on the Atlantic Provinces but also on the port of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon.
In 2012 the largest cruising company in the world “Royal Caribbean” will set its course for the archipelago in October 2012 with its ship “Brilliance the seas” www.royalcaribbean.com.
For some years now Quebec has been trying to develop a route including Saint-Pierre and Miquelon starting from the “*homeport” of Montreal. Its adone deal! The agreement was concluded last week. The intinerary will be in brochures in the next few weeks .
*“homeport” from which an intinerary begins and finishes.
- A visual promotion aboard cruiseships
CNL and ACCA included Saint-Pierre et Miquelon in their promotional videos . These videos will be available on screen in each cabin of the cruiseships which follow our routes in the Atlantic Provinces.
- ACCA in New York on April 6th 2011
- New York Symposium 15th and 16th june 2011
- Canal symposium in Newfoundland in October 2011
For each one of these trade shows the CNL, ACCA and the CRT will present the port and the archipelago of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon.
- Budget for the port of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon
The Territorial Council has just received 20 million euros for the economic development of the archipelago. The Strategic Development plans for Saint-Pierre et Miquelon makes for the development of tourism to be perceived like an economic sector with strong potential for the future.
8 million euros have already been allocated for all the grants in the development sector for projects such as construction of the wharf in Miquelon, assistance with restoration or hotel development, the Home of Nature and Environment… All these projects are essential prospects in the future development of tourism in Saint-Pierre et Miquelon.
"Because of its particularity and it being so unique, Saint-Pierre-and-Miquelon can be a destination of choice for the cruise companies. The importance of finacnial revenues brought in by the cruise ship industry could be quite a potential for Saint-Pierre et Miquelon . With its plans of stratigic Development, improving the reception of cruise ships is one of its ambitions that theTerritorial Council of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon has wishes to triple the number of cruise ship passengers within the next 20 years . European financing will be distributed if annual progress is recorded" says Mr. Olivier Gaston.
Le comité regional du tourisme has received several very encouraging mails of support on behalf of the Atlantic Provinces and Quebec in order to encourage the archipelago to improve the deep water wharf and its reception facilities for the cruise ship passengers. If Saint-Pierre et Miquelon wishes to meet the needs of some of the largest cruise ship companies, then the archipelago will have to make particular efforts right away.
This intinary in collaboration with Quebec concerning the arrival of Royal Caribbean is a trial test. Le comité regional du tourisme acknowledges that the lack of infrastructures and secondary equipment can compromise the future of the cruise industry.
Saint-Pierre et Miquelon in particular is well positioned to base a part of its economy in the cruise industry thanks to the Coastal Trafic Law.The year 2012 and 2013 should be particularly interesting for our area according to CNL and ACCA.
