IDENTIFICATION DOCUMENTS
On arrival in St-Pierre et Miquelon, visitors must present the following documents :
- Citizens from the European Community (French included) : provide a valid passport, necessary for transit into Canada.
- Canadian citizens : provide an official photo identification card.
- Other nationalities : provide a valid passport and may need a visa (depending on the nationality).
Make sure that any children either have their own passport or ID card or are registered on yours.

Currency
Official currency in Saint-Pierre et Miquelon is the Euro. Items purchased are tax free. Banking establishments will provide currency exchange services. Some public administrations do not accept (CAD) and (USD) but most of the merchants accept Canadian and American dollars. Major credit cards and traveller’s cheques are also accepted. Cash machines are also available.

Caution
Canadian and American calling cards can’t be used on the islands. You can buy prepaid calling cards (to be used in telephone booths) for sale in different places in town.
1 - 800 and French «numéros verts» can’t be accessed from the islands.
The local phone operator deals with Canadian, American and French GSM operators. Check with your local phone company before leaving your country.
GET THE RIGHT PLUG
Your electrical appliances must be compatible with 220 volts. Come with an adaptor : French plugs are round.

Communication
The most modern and diversified means of communication are offered to the population of the archipelago: Internet, fixed and mobile telephone,cabled network of television, the whole managed by an operator, SPM TELECOM. The french radio and tv station SAINT-PIERRE ET MIQUELON 1er is available on the island with digital terrestrial television and also two other radio stations (Radio Atlantic and Archipel FM). With all of this modern technology it helps to reduce the impact of insularity on the people in Saint-Pierre et Miquelon.
The local press
- ‘‘L’Echo des Caps’’ is the municipal bulletin newspaper founded in 1982 by then Mayor and also Senator of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon Albert Pen. It remains the principle newspaper on the island and endeavours to fulfill all the requests of the population.

- ”En direct de votre collectivité’’ is the magazine of the Territorial Collectivity. It’s a monthly magazine that informs you on the news of the Territorial Collectivity and of its structures (leisure, culture, economic development, cinema).

PUBLIC HOLIDAYS
There are 11, in France. These are : January 1st – May 1st and 8th – Easter Monday – Ascension Day – Pentecost – July 14th – August 15th – November 1st and 11th – December 25th. Administration buildings and businesses are mainly closed.
Religion
The majority of the population on the archipelago are catholic. Other religious communities are also represented
Health
Saint-Pierre et Miquelon has a hospital. Specialists are often brought in through out the year.
